Lewes Bonfire 2014

With origins dating back to the 17th Century, Lewes, a small town eight miles from Brighton in the coastal county of East Sussex, hosts the largest Bonfire Night celebrations anywhere; a crowd of up to 80,000 in a town with a standing population of 16,000 creates quite an atmosphere. A multitude of ‘Bonfire Societies’, the oldest of which go back to 1853, both collaborate and compete to put on the best show, parading through the narrow, winding streets.
